Enrollment matters will dominate the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education meeting Wednesday.
Board members will receive the official report from the district’s Enrollment Study Work Group near the end of the meeting. The Work Group has been tasked with finding potential options for handling the district’s ongoing trend of lower enrollment the past five years, and earlier the group mentioned redrawing elementary school boundaries, increasing professional development and adding childcare as potential priorities.
That conversation leads directly into the district’s annual enrollment and headcount reports.
Other business Wednesday will include a 2022-23 budget update and audio-visual equipment for Emporia Middle School’s new gym and storm shelter. Consent agenda items include a donation of Narcan from Walmart, a Safe and Secure Schools grant update and a concurrent enrollment memorandum of understanding between the district and Emporia State University.
The meeting begins at 6:30 pm at Mary Herbert Education Center.
