Nationally, you’re hearing a lot about a rapid influx of pediatric infections and illnesses.
Locally, there has been a mild increase at Newman Regional Health, but Infection Preventionist Ester Knoblock tells KVOE News it’s not to the severity seen regionally or nationally.
Across the Midwest, Knoblock says RSV cases have doubled over the past week. At Newman Regional Health, there have been a few cases of RSV, rhinovirus, parainfluenza, COVID-19 and other respiratory infections during that timetable. Knoblock says RSV symptoms can mirror those of other viruses or infections.
Not all area school districts polled by KVOE News have responded, but currently, infection numbers as reported by USD 252 Southern Lyon County, USD 284 Chase County and USD 386 Madison-Virgil indicate no RSV transmissions and low levels of absences due to infections.
