Following the announcement of significant layoffs for the Emporia Senior Center earlier this week, the organization is now calling an emergency meeting for Halloween.
According to the center’s official Facebook page, the meeting will take place at the senior center at 603 East 12th at 6 pm. The meeting will include four executive sessions to discuss personnel matters, attorney/client privileged information, financial affairs and a preliminary discussion of the acquisition of real property.
The meeting’s announcement comes just days after Director Ian Boyd announced the Senior Center Board of Directors approved Boyd’s recommendation to lay off employees, including himself, as the Senior Center deals with a combination of several factors — including the embezzlement of over $100,000 from prior director Lannie Lyman, equipment failures, COVID-19, recent inflationary pressures and lower attendance.
Boyd says he has “suspended all services and activities” effective on Halloween. He says all Hermes Healthcare patients will be seen Thursday at the Emporia Senior Center, although he is encouraging all patients to contact Hermes directly at 316-260-4110 for future appointments.
This is a developing story. KVOE News has reached out to Boyd for additional information and comment.
