Two area schools have an opportunity to win a state championship in volleyball.
Lebo will be playing in the Class 1A-Division II State Tournament to be played at Emporia’s White Auditorium. Olpe is playing in the Class 1A-Division I State Tournament at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.
The Wolves are the No. 1-seed in their state tournament with a 39-1 record. Lebo coach Gina Peek says having previous state experience helps.
Peek added the Wolves have their strengths including Brooklyn Jones who surpassed 1,200 kills in her career two weeks ago.
The Wolves have finished second the last two seasons and want to win their first state championship in program history. Peek says the Wolves have to be consistent if they want to etch their names in program history.
Lebo will play its pool play match at 11 a.m. against Ingalls. At 1 p.m., the Wolves face Hutchinson-Central Christian and conclude pool play against Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton at 3 p.m.
Matches begin at 10 a.m. The top two teams for each pool will advance to Saturday’s bracket play that begins at 9 a.m.
The Eagles are the No. 8-seed in the 1A-DI Tournament with a 24-15 record.
Olpe coach Crystal Heins says they’ve been playing together as a team to earn a trip to state.
Heins added its an opportunity that lies ahead of the Eagles.
Olpe opens up pool play at 4:30 p.m. Friday against top-seed Flinthills. They’ll face Little River at 5:30 p.m and wrap up pool play at 7:30 p.m. against Spearville.
