Phi Delta Theta began its 37th annual Pole Sit fundraiser Friday morning.
The Pole Sit, located at the intersection of 12th and Commercial, sees fraternity members take turns sitting on the pole while collecting donations to support SOS Inc. Phi Delta Theta Philanthropy Chair Alec Berthot says SOS’s impact and importance to the local community is clearly visible.
The pole sit in 2021 raised just over $5,500. The Emporia Masonic Lodge is matching up to $2,000 on top of what the fraternity raises.
Aside from the funds, Phi Delta Theta Social Chair and Social Media Manager Caleb Mollett explained several takeaways the fraternity receives from the event.
The month of October is domestic violence awareness month. SOS has spent the month increasing awareness of its services and further educate the community on the topic of domestic violence.
Phi Delta Theta will be collecting donations until 10 a.m. Saturday.
