The Emporia Senior Center Board of Directors will convene an “emergency meeting” Monday evening.
The meeting will begin at 6 pm at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 East 12th Avenue. Four executive sessions are planned to discuss personnel matters, attorney/client privileged information, financial affairs and a preliminary discussion for the acquisition of real property.
The meeting follows the recent announcement that the board of directors approved Director Ian Boyd’s recommendation for employee layoffs, including Boyd himself, due to several factors including the embezzlement of over $100,000 from prior Director Lannie Lyman, equipment failures, COVID-19, inflation and low attendance. KVOE has received reports from local residents the center may be closing its doors permanently following Monday’s meetings.
Boyd stated he could not confirm those reports and says during the meeting the board will “explore all options.” That being said, Boyd has suspended all operations and activities effective Monday.
Hermes Healthcare patients are being directed to contact Hermes directly at 316-260-4110 for future appointments. KVOE has requested a taped interview with Boyd ahead of Monday’s meeting. Those requests have been denied.
This is a developing story and KVOE will have additional details and information as it becomes available.
