The deadline is approaching quickly for young residents to submit their entries for a pair of patriotic competitions.
Submissions for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy contest are due by midnight Monday. The contest is open to all students 9th to 12th grade with the theme for this years competition being “Why the Veteran is Important for the Voice of Democracy.”
Local veteran Gary Post says submissions will need both a written and audio copy.
Judges rate the submissions based on three criteria
*Originality
*Content
*Delivery
Contest winners will receive a share of $2 million in scholarship funds. Meanwhile, junior high school students have the opportunity to also claim scholarship dollars through the Patriot’s Pen essay contest.
The theme for Patriot’s Pen is “My Pledge to Veterans.” Post encourages all students to enter the competition saying the more entries, the more opportunity students will have to move forward.
Patriots Pen submissions are also due by midnight Oct. 31.
