The third time was the charm for the Lebo volleyball team Saturday morning in the Class 1A-Division II State Tournament held at White Auditorium.
After back-to-back runner-up finishes the past two years, the Wolves finally got to raise a state championship. Lebo defeated Hanover, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, to win the program’s first state championship. Lebo advanced to the championship game with a 25-18, 25-22 victory over Attica in the semifinals.
The Wolves were down 20-16 in the third set, scoring six consecutive points to take a 22-20 lead. Even with Hanover tying the game at 23, Lebo closed the match out with consecutive points.
Lebo coach Gina Peek says hard work pays off in the long run.
Senior Brooklyn Jones had the kill to give the Wolves the victory. Her sister, Abigail was able to set her up for match point.
The Wolves finish their season with a 44-1 record and completed the season on a 41-match winning streak.
