Several kinds of weather are expected across the KVOE listening area through the rest of the week.
Fire danger is increasing through Thursday as winds shift from northerly over the weekend to southerly and pick up speed the next several days. Outdoor burning is already strongly discouraged due to the drought, and it’s banned until further notice in Chase and Coffey counties.
Rainfall is becoming more likely to close out the week. Showers and storms are expected late Thursday night through much of Friday. There is a marginal risk of severe weather for hail and wind Thursday night, but storms may well be dying off as they approach.
Moderate to heavy rain is now a distinct possibility through Sunday, with the National Weather Service predicting anywhere from 2-4 inches of rainfall. The rain will come too late to adjust the US Drought Monitor, which makes its weekly report Thursday mornings. Area counties are in severe to extreme drought north to south, based on the Drought Monitor report from Oct. 27.
