The Kansas City Royals introduced new manager Matt Quatraro in a press conference Thursday morning.
Quatraro is the Royals’ 18th full-time manager in franchise history. Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman said Quatraro’s resume stood out amongst the candidates for the managerial position.
Royals Executive Director for Baseball Operations JJ Piccolo said Quatraro was the best fit for what the Royals were looking for in a manager.
Quatraro spent the last five seasons in Tampa Bay on Kevin Cash’s staff. He served four seasons as the bench coach and one as the third base coach. He said he’s honored to be the new manager of the Royals.
Quatraro was hired to replace Mike Matheny, who the club parted ways with after a 65-97 season.
