Another status hearing is coming next year for one of six defendants in the Jesus Avila murder case.
Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde had his latest hearing Thursday, waiving his right to a speedy trial as Judge Lee Fowler slated another hearing in early June.
Cornejo-Campoverde and Andrew Granado have agreed to testify against alleged gunman Samuel Garcia and did so earlier this week, but Cornejo-Campoverde defense attorney Rick Meier says the details of that agreement can’t be divulged until all court proceedings, including those for Garcia and the other co-defendants, are completed.
Granado and Jovan Pecina have status hearings Nov. 18. Meanwhile, Alan Alanis has trial ahead in December or February, depending on court proceedings, and Armando Nunez is spending nearly four years in prison after pleading to lesser counts earlier this year. Garcia will be arraigned May 4.
Alanis, Cornejo-Campoverde, Garcia, Granado and Pecina are all charged with first-degree murder and other counts in Avila’s death in September 2017.
