Construction on phase two of the Emporia All Veterans Memorial’s Tablets of Honor area is virtually at an end.
According to local veteran Frank Lowery, the second phase of the project, located to the northwest of the original tablets, is completely open to the public following significant construction work over the summer. According to Lowery the second phase addition includes two new tablets bringing the total to 13 with 1,040 names inscribed upon them.
Also over the summer, the memorial saw the installation of surveillance cameras which Lowery says was a necessity due to past vandalism.
The All Veterans Memorial will be a busy place over the next several days as it will play host to the annual Freedom Fest Saturday. The memorial will also host the annual Veterans Day Memorial Service at 11 am Nov. 11.
