Broadband Internet access is expanding across parts of the KVOE listening area, thanks to an announcement from the state Friday.
The Office of Kansas Governor says almost $17 million is to be split among various projects as part of the Kansas Capital Project Funds Broadband Grant Program.
S&A Telephone is getting almost $3.75 million to connect over 400 entities in its Lyon County coverage area, which includes Americus, Allen and Admire.
Also, MT Networks is getting almost $2.6 million to connect nearly 330 entities in Coffey County.
Funds are available after the US Treasury Department approved the state’s Coronavirus Capital Projects infrastructure plan when it comes to broadband. This is the first of three rounds of awards with the overall program. The goal is to connect more than 1,900 homes, businesses, healthcare facilities, schools and public entities to reliable, fast Internet access over the next two years. The program also focuses on underserved, low-population areas in economic distress.
