Emporia State University is bringing four finalists for provost and vice president for academic affairs to campus over the next two weeks.
The first finalist is Dr. Sean Lane, currently the dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Alabama-Huntsville. Lane has held the position since 2018 after faculty positions at Nevada-Las Vegas, Princeton and Louisiana State University, as well as several positions in private industry. Lane received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State-Fresno, going to Kent State for his master’s degree and doctorate in experimental psychology.
Students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to a campus and community forum from 2-3:30 pm Wednesday at the Memorial Union Webb Hall. A faculty-specific forum will he held from 3:30-4:15 pm in the Memorial Union Preston Family Room.
Finalists will also interview Thursday, Nov. 14 and Nov. 17. Information about each candidate is to be shared two days before arrival on campus.
Following the retirement of David Cordle last year, George Arasimowicz parted ways with ESU in February. Honors College Dean Gary Wyatt served as interim provost until August, when Emporia State used Joan Brewer and Brent Thomas as interim provosts.
The finalist stage for provost is notably different than the one for president. ESU is controlling the search for provost, so the format holds true to past administrator searches. The Kansas Board of Regents led the president search, which was closed until the announcement of Ken Hush as the replacement for Allison Garrett.
