Emporia State University’s search for a new provost and vice president for academic affairs is in the final stages.
The first of four finalists for the position, Dr. Sean Lane, had his formal interview and a series of meetings with staff, faculty and community members on campus Wednesday. Lane is currently the dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Alabama-Huntsville, a position he has held since 2018.
Lane has also held faculty positions at Nevada-Las Vegas, Princeton and Louisiana State University, and has experience in the tech sector during the “dot com era.” Lane believes this blend of experience in the private sector and academia make him an ideal candidate for the position.
The finalist interviews come as ESU is in the midst of its reinvestment for the future initiative. Lane says he finds the work ongoing at ESU to be an exciting and enticing opportunity.
Next to interview for the position will be Greg Haddock, Northwest Missouri State’s associate provost of graduate and professional studies. Haddock will be on campus Thursday for a campus and community forum from 2-3:30 pm inside the Memorial Union’s Webb Hall followed by a faculty-only forum in the Preston Family room.
Finalists will also be interviewed on Nov. 14 and 17 with the names of those finalists to be announced two days prior to the formal campus visits.
