Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute offered two events for the public Wednesday.
The traditional Veterans Roundtable was held at Emporia State’s Memorial Union and featured the experiences of retired Army veteran Mike Yoho, who served two tours in Iraq, including the time when former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was captured and later executed. Yoho has described his role as “route clearance,” looking for roadside bombs to disable them before American soldiers could move forward. Sometimes that involved moving civilians from bomb zones.
Overlapping that event was the screening of the movie “Go for Broke!,” a movie dramatizing the exploits of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. No Coast Film Fest collaborated on the event with Visit Emporia and the Lyon County History Center, and No Coast spokesman Jonny Leach tells KVOE News the movie was the result of several planning conversations.
KVOE and KVOE.com will keep you updated on upcoming All Veterans Tribute activities.
