The City of Emporia’s new CodeRed mass notification system has been live since Monday and has already seen a strong response from the local community.
According to City Communications Manager Christine Johnson, a recent guest of KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, by midweek well over a few hundred residents had registered to receive CodeRed notifications.
CodeRed provides general notifications to residents regarding “non-life threatening emergency situations” such as water line breaks and street closures as well as utility-related advisories such as boil water advisories. This means residents will not receive severe weather or traffic updates, however, Johnson says that could change if the county decides to get on board with the system.
Johnson tells KVOE News CodeRed is not a bilingual notification system at this time.
Residents have four options to receive notifications either through phone, text, email or the CodeRed mobile app.
Johnson also says there are two separate registration processes for those options. For those wishing to receive notifications through phone, text or email you will need to email Emporiainfo@EmporiaKS.gov.
Residents wishing to receive notifications through the mobile app will have to register through the app itself.
