This Veteran’s Day weekend, love and appreciation were shown to Emporia veterans through hand-made quilts.
The Emporia Regional Quilters Guild crafted 28 quilts to gift to local veterans on Sunday during the Quilts of Gratitude event. The event was held in order to give back to veterans as a special thank you from the community.
Leonard Swarnes, an Air Force veteran, says that over the years community events such as Quilts of Gratitude have grown in support and size, and seeing that has made a difference for veterans like him.
Swarnes also describes how Veterans Tribute activities bring joy into veterans’ lives and remind them that people care.
Ralph Garcia Jr., a Navy veteran, describes just how sincere a personal gift like this can feel to receive.
Garcia also mentions how simple acts of kindness go a long way in making veterans feel appreciated. His experience was different from the veterans returning home from Vietnam.
Applications for veterans to apply for next year’s Quilts of Gratitude event are available through the Emporia Regional Quilters Guild now.
