Now that the donating has ended, Emporia Community Foundation CEO Becky Nurnberg is optimistic about final totals from Monday’s Match Day.
Passing last year’s record-setting Match Day will be impressive, considering fundraising efforts generated over $455,000.
Meanwhile, the Community Foundation’s annual Growing Up Giving effort was its most impactful yet, with $2,700 raised by 27 classrooms in eight schools. Each class gets $100 “Match Day Dollars” before researching the different organizations and deciding where their money goes. Nurnberg says there are a lot of lessons for the students involved.
Twenty-eight groups in Lyon and most surrounding counties were involved this year. This was the ninth Match Day — and the first where participating groups could collect assets as well as money.
The check presentation will be at Flinthills Mall on Nov. 29 starting at 11 am. KVOE will broadcast that event.
