Emporia State University will conclude its finalist interviews this week for provost and vice president for academic affairs.
The fourth — and last — finalist in the process is Alberto Ruiz, currently an associate athlete director for student athlete excellence and a professor of kinesiology at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He has worked at Louisiana-Monroe since 2019 after serving in several roles at Texas A&M-Kingsville from 2001-2019. Ruiz obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M-Kingsville and his education doctorate from the University of Houston.
Ruiz follows ESU interim provost Brent Thomas, who interviewed Monday, and Sean Lane of Alabama-Huntsville and Greg Haddock of Northwest Missouri State, who interviewed last week. A campus-community forum will start at 2 pm Thursday at the Memorial Union Preston Family Room, followed by a faculty-only forum at 3:30 pm — also at the Preston Family Room.
Emporia State is looking to bring some stability to the provost position after David Cordle retired last year.
George Arasimowicz parted ways with ESU in February. Honors College Dean Gary Wyatt served as interim provost until Septembr, when Emporia State used Thomas and Joan Brewer as interim provosts.
