Veteran’s Day activities continued into Saturday with the Home of the Brave celebration in Bushong.
This year’s event was the fourth annual that included a World War II reenactment, living history displays, and vehicles. The North Lyon County Veterans Memorial, which is located in Bushong, is continuing to expand. Along with the memorial, a wall will be made to honor 10 Bushong residents who died in World War II.
Organizer Dianne Bedner-Smith explained a little bit about the future addition, which will be located just south of the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial.
Bedner-Smith added per capita, which Bushong had 134 residents at the time, it was the most that died during World War II in Kansas and possibly in the United States.
Along with the wall honoring the 10 Bushong natives, there’s still more Organizer Robert Cunningham explained what else will be added around Bushong.
Cunningham and Bedner-Smith hope to have the event earlier next November. They’ll also have a fish fry and car show in June.
