Despite a virtually dry week, there was virtually no change in the US Drought Monitor map announced Thursday for the KVOE listening area.
Moderate drought still covers most of the area, including all of Lyon, Chase and Osage counties, northwest Coffey, northwest Greenwood, southeast Morris and southeast Wabaunsee counties. Greenwood County goes from moderate drought north of Kansas Highway 58 to exceptional drought along and south of US Highway 54 — as it has now for over a month.
Area residents got anywhere from 0.10-0.20 inches of a rain-snow mix Monday night after similar totals a week ago. Residents got anywhere from 1.5-4 inches of rainfall Nov. 4-5, which improved drought conditions essentially north of Madison across the area.
