Morris County now needs a new lead prosecutor.
The 8th Judicial District Nominating Commission has selected current County Attorney Laura Viar as the county’s next magistrate judge. She will take her new position after being sworn in and follows current judge Margaret White, who is retiring on New Year’s Day.
There is no official word on when the county will select Viar’s replacement.
Viar fills the area’s third judge position that has opened this year. Laura Miser was named to the Lyon County bench following the retirement of Merlin Wheeler, while Coffey County Transportation Director Kara Reynolds was named to fill a brand-new magistrate judge post in Coffey County earlier this week
