For the next month-plus, residents have a chance to help those less fortunate through the Salvation Army’s annual Bell-ringing campaign.
Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says the kettle goal is $30,000, or about $6,000 a week. Proceeds help residents in a few different ways.
The campaign officially begins Saturday with a special media challenge. KVOE staffers will ring bells at Bluestem Farm and Ranch between 8 am and noon. Tagan Trahoon will broadcast from Bluestem.
Bell ringers are needed through Christmas Eve. You can call the Salvation Army office at 620-342-3093 or go online to registertoring.com.
Meanwhile, American Legion Post 5 has been collecting toys, other items and financial donations for its first-ever Toy Run to benefit the Salvation Army. The event is Saturday, and Post Commander Clay Childs says a range of toys and other items are desired.
The toy run will start with breakfast at the Legion between 8-9:30 am, with vehicles lining up at 9:30 am and a delivery drive to the Salvation Army at 10 am.
If you haven’t dropped off anything for the drive but want to do so, the Legion is open until 1 pm and then again from 4-8 pm Friday.
