A Milford man accused of shooting an Emporia man during an incident in Chase County this past spring will have a new attorney as trial approaches.
Eric McClure, age 38, had originally been represented in court by Steve Atherton, but Atherton has withdrawn due to “professional considerations.” Rick Meier was appointed as McClure’s legal counsel as part of a hearing this month.
A three-day trial is currently set to begin Dec. 13, but Meier has requested a delay so he can get familiar with case details. A pretrial hearing is set for Dec. 5.
McClure is accused of shooting Erik Reyes as one SUV passed another on Kansas Highway 150 west of Elmdale on May 13. Reyes was treated at Newman Regional Health and released. McClure still faces single counts of aggravated battery and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, but charges of aggravated assault were dismissed in August.
