The holiday shopping period is officially underway, and this time it comes exactly a month before Christmas.
Locally, most retailers went back to the traditional Black Friday shopping model of staying closed on Thanksgiving before opening up bright and early — or, in the case of Flinthills Mall, dark and early. Hartford resident Riley McAvoy decided to do some in-store shopping at the mall.
Before COVID-19, a lot of larger stores would open up by late afternoon or early evening on Thanksgiving. Some local retailers are extending their normal hours through the weekend and a lot of stores participating in Small Business Saturday will carry over their Black Friday deals or will have separate specials both days.
