The search continues for the next director of the Emporia Granada Theatre, and that search is moving into a new phase.
Granada Board of Directors President Mike Helbert says the board is in the process of forming a special search committee.
The creation of the search committee follows a parting of ways between the Granada and prior director Rebeca Herrera this past August after Herrera had led the theater since 2019. Stacey Schneider has been serving as interim director since that decision. Helbert says the board has used two different agencies to help with the search.
Now that the application period has ended, Helbert says there has been nationwide interest but the applicants haven’t completely fit what the board is seeking, including business and personnel management experience.
Experience in the entertainment industry is also needed.
The Board of Directors is reaching out to potential committee members to gauge their interest, and Helbert says residents interested in being part of the search committee can call the theater at 620-342-3342. Helbert expects a decision on a new director at some point next year.
The Granada has Exile playing a Christmas concert Dec. 16. Tickets are available for that show.
