For a second time, jury trial has been delayed for a Chase County man accused of having and trying to distribute child sexual abuse materials.
Strong City resident Walter Haskin was originally set for jury trial in October, but that was initially delayed to Dec. 12 so Haskin’s defense team could have more time to review evidence. After a motions hearing last week, trial was delayed again — this time to Feb. 27 if plea negotiations are unsuccessful.
The current docket also includes a motions hearing Jan. 20 and a status conference Feb. 13.
Haskin is accused of trying to upload child sex abuse materials involving a 6-year-old child to a Dropbox account a year ago. He is also accused of having child sex abuse images on his cell phone.
Baseline sentences are 5-20 years in federal prison for the attempted distribution count and up to 20 years in prison for the possession count upon conviction. Because Haskin is a registered sex offender, according to the federal complaint, Haskin could face 15-40 years in prison if convicted of attempted distribution and 10-20 years if convicted of possession.
