In and out of Emporia, Healthier Lyon County is stepping up its already-notable involvement in a variety of projects aimed at increasing healthy living as 2022 comes to a close.
The latest project is called “Increase the Reach.” It’s a roughly $100,000 state grant, connected to a federal grant through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that’s designed to help with vaccinations in two main categories as grant manager Daphne Mertens explaned on KVOE’s Morning Show recently.
Separately, Healthier Lyon County is continuing its local work to improve access to food through its involvement – and partnership with both the city of Emporia and Multi-Use Pathway Planning Board — in a KDOT Transportation Alternatives grant. Mertens says this will involve sidewalks near 12th and Burlingame as well as an LCAT bus stop at the nearby Dollar General.
In addition, Healthier Lyon County is involved in a “creative placemaking” project in Admire.
Healthier Lyon County is also continuing work to implement the Supporting Wellness At Pantries project at different local food pantries. This project gives patrons a stoplight-style look at the health benefits of the food they are picking up.
Also, Healthier Lyon County continues to use the emporiastrong.com website and its Facebook page to deliver information about food, transportation, healthcare and housing matters.
