So far, so good for the United Way of the Flint Hills as its annual fundraising campaign prepares to enter the so-called “dark period.”
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Wednesday, drive co-chair Scott Hayes said a return to in-person meetings has helped the conversation — and the fundraising — in a lot of ways.
Several of the United Way’s larger campaigns have not been turned in yet. United Way CEO Mickey Edwards says there isn’t any sign of “donation fatigue” so far, despite the campaign overlapping numerous other fundraisers.
For the holidays, the United Way is offering home visits from the Grinch and Buddy the Elf. Residents can choose a 15-minute time slot Wednesdays between 6:30-8:30 pm starting Wednesday. There is a suggested minimum donation of $50, with proceeds split between the United Way and Emporia Friends of the Zoo. Visits end Dec. 19.
