Numbers continue to increase for the Emporia High girls wrestling team.
The program has doubled its numbers from the 2021-22 season.
The Spartans have two wrestlers ranked, Virginia Munoz and Kiana Flores-Delgado. Munoz is the top-ranked wrestler at 145 among all classes and in Class 6-5A. Flores-Delgado is ranked sixth at 170.
Coach Shawn Russell says Munoz and Flores-Delgado will be the ones younger wrestlers will look up to.
After finishing as the state runner-up at 138 a season ago, Munoz is motivated as the top-ranked wrestler in her weight class.
Flores-Delgado says she’s seen improvement heading into this season.
The Lady Spartans open up their season with their lone home tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday.
