One of Emporia’s most notable real-estate agencies will be expanding its services alongside an internationally known franchise.
Ek Real Estate has entered into a franchise agreement with RE/Max which will allow the Emporia-based company to expand into a new office in Topeka according to Ek Co-Owner Jeff Kitselman. Kitselman stated to KVOE News this is not a “merger” as neither entity has bought out the other, but rather a joint venture between the two.
Kitselman says the conversations have been ongoing for the past five years on the prospect of a franchise agreement, however, the real work has picked up over the past six months. According to Kitselman the agency’s new Topeka location will be opening on Jan. 1 with signage and other promotional materials already up in the area.
Kitselman says the expansion into Topeka will be a true test for the Ek.
Ek Real Estate has been in operation since 1965 when it was opened by original owner Don Ek. RE/Max is one of the largest American-based international real-estate agencies that employs more than 100,000 agents across 6,800 offices.
