The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has had its contract with a non-lethal weaponry manufacturer extended thanks to Lyon County Commissioners.
During their weekly action meeting, commissioners approved a five-year extension of the office’s contract with Taser. Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says non-lethal weaponry is an essential tool to law enforcement as deadly force is always a last resort.
In other business Thursday, commissioners also approved signing a resolution related to the 2022 Solid Waste Management plan and approved Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull to attend the 2023 NACE Conference in Orange Beach, Alabama Apr. 16-19 with registration and travel expenses to be shared with the Kansas County Highway Association.
Commissioners also approved the republishing of several budgets for 2022, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Kansas Debt Recovery System and updated an on-call hourly rate for Community Corrections.
Five executive sessions were also held as was the annual Lyon County Employee and Volunteer Recognition ceremony.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
