For the third straight week, the US Drought Monitor’s weekly map shows little to no change for area counties.
Lyon, Chase, Osage and parts of Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee counties are in moderate drought. Most of Coffey County is in severe drought. Greenwood County still has a range of deepening drought — moderate to exceptional north to south.
Before the expected rainfall by Thursday afternoon, the last measurable rainfall for the KVOE listening area was Nov. 26. The KVOE studios received 1.2 inches of rainfall that day.
Soil conditions are similar to recent weekly reports:
*Topsoil moisture is now at 46 percent very short, 29 percent short, 24 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil is at 51 percent very short, 32 percent short, 16 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.
