Area veterans are encouraged to attend a special town hall meeting next week in Topeka about the so-called PACT Act.
Officially known as the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxins Act of 2022, the federal legislation signed this past summer expands free health care for roughly 3.5 milion veterans exposed to toxic burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Vietnam War veterans exposed to Agent Orange.
The town hall is at 5 pm Wednesday at the Topeka VA Medical Center Campus’ Hawley Auditorium. Veterans, family members, caregivers and survivors can learn more about PACT Act details through the initial presentation and Q&A session that follows. They can also apply for toxic exposure-related health care and benefits.
Separately, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Kansas Department of Transportation are working to connect veterans in rural areas with telehealth and mental health resources.
Recently-produced flyers are now at over 30 rest areas, information centers and visitor centers statewide, with information about telehealth options, VA locations and the Veterans Crisis Line.
