Emporia State University has its winter commencement activities this upcoming weekend, and Registrar Sheila Markowitz says it’s a big time for students, family members and university administrators.
The ceremony for graduate-level students will begin at 6 pm Friday, with the ceremony for undergraduate-level students at 9:30 am Saturday. Both events will be at White Auditorium, with doors opening 90 minutes before the actual ceremonies begin.
Kansas Board of Regents Vice Chair Carl Ice will offer remarks Friday night, with Regent Wint Winter and Emporia State Roe R Cross Distinguished Professor John Wade giving the official remarks Saturday.
There have been some posts saying masks will be mandated at both events, given the national increase in flu, COVID, RSV and other illnesses. However, Director of Media Relations Gwen Larson has confirmed masks will be highly recommended but not required this weekend.
Flint Hills Technical College, meanwhile, has its winter commencement activities Friday. The semester nurse pinning ceremony will be at 4 pm at the college’s main campus conference center. Commencement will be from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Humanitarian Center Auditorium.
The college’s graduation activities will be discussed during the latest installment of Tech Talk at 8:20 am Tuesday on KVOE.
