Madison and Waverly split their doubleheader on the Area Game of the Week Tuesday night.
In the girl’s game, Madison would jump out to an early lead they never relinquished en route to a 42-24 win over Waverly.
Waverly would keep it close tying the game early on but would be unable to overcome the early deficit. Madison would lead 17-11 at the half and would outscore Waverly 25-13 to seal the win.
Head Coach Bill Nienstedt says it was a good win, but his team is still struggling in some areas of the game.
Madison had two players in double figures led by sophomore Jaylynn Weakley with 13 points. Senior Yolaine Luthi ended the night with 12.
Waverly was led by sophomore Morgan Vogts with 9 points. With the win, Madison improves to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Waverly falls to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in league play.
In the boy’s game, Waverly would use a fourth-quarter rally to end the Madison boy’s undefeated streak 42-37.
Madison would lead through the first three-quarters of play after outscoring Waverly 26-20. In the fourth, Waverly would go on to outscore Madison 22-11 en route to their second win of the season.
Waverly Head Coach Tyler Williams says his team made the right adjustments at the half.
Waverly was led in scoring by Brantley Peterson with 17 points. Madison was led by senior Bryson Turner who also ended the night with 17 points.
With the win, Waverly improves to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Madison falls to 4-1 and begins league play 0-1.
