Emporia trash service may be delayed on a daily basis through the end of the year.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, City Manager Trey Cocking said staffing levels are the reason why, although there are two different reasons in the picture.
Residents who haven’t had their trash picked up by 4 pm on their scheduled days are advised to call the Public Works Department at 620-340-6339 extension 2.
Cocking says this does not affect the Curbit recycling schedule. He says the Curbit schedule has a different pickup cycle because there is one collector currently assigned to the recycling routes.
Overall, Cocking says he’s more comfortable with city staffing levels now than he was in August. Having said that, Cocking also says the fire department is six employees short of where it needs to be and the police department is still down three positions — although several officers are currently in training.
5:45 am Wednesday: Daily trash pickup in Emporia may be off schedule through December due to staffing issues
If you live in the Emporia city limits, there’s a chance your sanitation service may be delayed.
The city put out a CodeRed statement Tuesday, saying Emporians may have delays in their trash pickups because of unspecified staffing issues. City Communications Manager Christine Johnson tells KVOE News there could be daily delays through at least the rest of this month.
There is no indication whether the Curbit recycling schedule is affected.
