To this point, the KVOE listening area has avoided any wintry driving conditions.
That could well be changing over the next week. The current forecast calls for up to 2 inches of snow — with a possible wintry mix of precipitation included — for Monday morning, with more light snow possible Wednesday and biting cold beginning Wednesday night. Emporia Police Officer Jaffar Agha is asking residents to take extra care as needed.
Agha also encourages drivers to be careful around crash sites — and to keep in mind the work law enforcement, emergency responders and tow truck drivers may need to do in slick conditions.
Local road crews are stocked with treatment supplies.
For those looking ahead, one inch of snowfall is needed for an official White Christmas. Emporia’s last official White Christmas was in 2009.
The main weather concern actually begins Wednesday night as Siberian air overspreads most of the area. Wednesday night’s low will be around zero with wind chills possibly -25. After a high of 5 and wind chills under -10 all day Thursday, the low will approach -10 and wind chills could be near -30.
