The Pre-Christmas Scheduled ended on a sour note for the Emporia State basketball teams Monday.
Missouri Western handed both the Emporia State women and men their second loss of the season.
Missouri Western won the women’s game 82-74.
Emporia State was playing catch-up most of the game. They trailed by 14 in the first half. The Lady Hornets had a 3-point lead after 3 quarters but could not hang on in the 4th quarter.
Coach Toby Wynn said they were unable to cash in on all their opportunities.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Ehlania Hartman finished with 13 points.
The Emporia State women take an 8-2 record into the Christmas break. They are 4-1 in MIAA play.
Missouri Western won the men’s game 68-64. Emporia State scored the games first 10 points and led by 12 in the first half. Western would take the lead in the 2nd and lead by 12 with over 6 minutes to play. The Hornets cut the deficit to 2 points but could never retake the lead.
Emporia State struggled from the free-throw line making 15 of 26 free throws and were 7 of 26 from the 3-point line.
Coach Craig Doty said they did not make good decisions.
Owen Long led Emporia State with a game-high 23 points. Atavian Butler added 11 points. Missouri Western had 5 players score in double-figures.
The Emporia State men go into the Christmas break with a 9-2 record and 3-2 in MIAA play.
