Funeral services have been announced for World War II veteran and longtime Emporia letter carrier Aaron Bura.
Services will be at Messiah Lutheran Church at 10 am Jan. 3 with Pastor Eddie Hosch presiding. A committal service with military honors will follow at 2 pm Jan. 3 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery of Winfield. Visitation will be Jan. 1 from 2-4 pm at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Bura passed away at Lawrence Memorial Hospital this past Tuesday. He was 99 years old.
Bura was born in Ramona, Kansas, in January 1923 and served as a technical sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was wounded in action during the war. Following the war, Bura became a letter carrier for the Emporia post office in 1961 and retired in 1987.
Memorials have been established with Messiah Lutheran Church, the Emporia All Veterans Memorial and Sertoma Club Miniature Train.
