The biting cold air temperatures did no favors to several local businesses, notably with failed sprinkler heads or broken sprinkler lines.
Emporia Fire responded to three separate incidents of sprinkler issues at local businesses Saturday:
*Emporia Fire responded to the Dynamic Discs headquarters around 3:30 pm, finding a sprinkler head had frozen and then broken, sending water into one room. The damage was isolated to that room and considered low-level.
*EFD then responded to Hills’s Pet Nutrition as a fire alarm call turned into a reported structure fire. There was no fire, but a sprinkler head failed on the fourth floor, sending water down at least one stairwell all the way to the main floor. The company’s maintenance department handled the breakage quickly, so there was minimal damage reported.
*Emporia Fire then reported to Presbyterian Manor’s apartment side after a sprinkler line broke, flooding part of the lobby area.
Emporia Fire also dealt with sprinkler-related flooding issues at Good’s Cash Saver and Dunham’s Sports on Friday. Damage reports are pending.
