Emporia Public Works replaced a broken water valve affecting service to part of northwest Emporia on Wednesday.
A valve on an 8-inch line ruptured, according to the city of Emporia, forcing Public Works to shut off service to the Deerbrook subdivision shortly after 9 am. Crews replaced the valve and restored service around noon, 1-3 hours earlier than the typical 4-6 hour repair estimate.
9 am Wednesday: Ruptured water valve halts service to Emporia’s Deerbrook subdivision
Residents in a northwest Emporia neighborhood could be without water service for a good portion of Wednesday.
Residents received a CodeRed alert around 8:45 am affecting the Deerbrook subdivision. Water service goes offline around 9:15 am as Emporia Public Works replaces an 8-inch valve. The city’s Facebook page says the valve ruptured but did not list a cause.
There is currently no word on when the valve will be replaced.
This follows the failure of an 8-inch water line in the 700 block of Rural on Tuesday and several sprinkler line failures at local businesses and nonprofits beginning Friday, with places like Dunham’s Sports, Dynamic Discs, Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Hetlinger Developmental Services Hill’s Pet Nutrition and La Quinta Inn affected to varying degrees.
