Lyon County Commissioners concluded business for the 2022 calendar year by increasing budget authority for several county funds Thursday morning.
Following a brief public hearing, commissioners moved to approve increases of $500,000 apiece for the multi-year and general funds, $100,000 for Road and Bridge, $76,000 for Special Bridge and $1,000 for tort and liability. This is standard operating procedure to ensure the commission has enough authority in the event unexpected expenses were to arise ahead of the new year.
Commissioners approved the increases unanimously. Seperately, commissioners also approved giving their support to the annual joint legislative statement for Emporia and surrounding areas.
Commissioners also held three executive sessions with no action taken. Commissioners will reconvene for their first meeting of 2023 next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
Next Thursday’s meeting will also be the final for longtime commissioner Scott Briggs who is set to step down after 16 years on the commission. A reception for Briggs will be held on the second floor of the courthouse from 2 pm to 4 pm next Thursday.
