It was billed as “The Last Goodbye,” but Saturday’s activities at Mulready’s Pub turned into a celebration of the first 10 years of the business and anticipation for the next chapter under new ownership.
Co-owner Rick Becker started Mulready’s in 2012. Initially, he wanted to stay in the business for about 10 years — and he tells KVOE News it felt like the right time to step aside.
Over the past year, Becker and fellow co-owners Lucas and Amy Moody have been working with Joe Reed and Meghann Worthing to take over the business. Worthing tells KVOE News Mulready’s has been her “safe spot” since she moved to Emporia.
The ownership change officially takes effect Sunday. Worthing says she and Reed plan to build on Becker’s work to continue the business and its community involvement. Becker, for his part, says he doesn’t have a fully-fleshed-out plan for his future, but he plans to help out at Mulready’s with different events.
