Purchases and financial matters will take precedence for Lyon County Commissioners during their first action meeting of 2023 Thursday morning.
Lyon County Controller Dan Williams will present the 2023 KCAMP annual premium, totaling just over $372,000, along with the 2023 Kansas Workers Risk Cooperative for Counties Premium totaling just over $209,600 for commission approval. Williams will also submit a resolution to waive the GAAP Requirements in K.S.A. for the commission’s consideration.
Tobey Kelly will also present a purchase request of $237,713 for six 2023 Ram double cab 4×4 pickup trucks for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Two executive sessions, one for non-elected personnel and one for legal matters, are also on the schedule.
The meeting will begin at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
Adjournment of Thursday’s meeting will also culminate the tenure of First District Commissioner Scott Briggs. Briggs will be stepping down after 16 years on the commission.
Briggs announced he would not be seeking re-election ahead of the 2022 election cycle saying he felt 16 years was more than long enough for any elected official to serve the community. While speaking with KVOE News recently, Briggs stated he will take many fond memories with him from his time on the commission saying there are several accomplishments he looks at with pride over his tenure.
Although he will no longer serve on the commission, Briggs says he still plans to be heavily involved in the community.
A reception for Briggs will take place from 2 pm to 4 pm on the second floor of the courthouse Thursday afternoon. Republican Ken Duft will be filling Briggs’ seat after he was elected to serve the first district during the general election in November.
