Lyon County’s first report on COVID-19 traffic for the year didn’t show a drastic increase in new cases, however, the death toll has risen.
Wednesday, Public Health reported 74 new cases, nine more than the final update of 2022 on Dec. 21. Two new deaths were also reported putting the death toll at 131.
This was the first increase in deaths reported since Nov. 2. To date, Lyon County has had 12,015 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.
With new COVID-19 variants in the picture elsewhere across the country, Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern is reminding residents of a special online service for people who may need antivirals but don’t have a primary care physician.
Residents can go online to gogetdoc.com/kansas for virtual visits and possible prescriptions. The cost is $39 a visit.
Millbern is also encouraging people to vaccinated and boosted. She says medical facilities and pharmacies are well stocked with both the original sets of vaccines and the bivalent boosters.
