The Emporia High basketball teams hit the road for the first time in 2023 with games at Topeka High.
The girls game will feature two ranked teams. Emporia High is 7-0, 1-0 in league play and ranked third in 5A. Topeka High is sixth in Class 6A and is 7-1 and 1-0 in league play. Both teams have won seven consecutive games.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey says the Lady Spartans have to play tough.
Junior Zayda Pearson says they have to be a cohesive unit.
The Emporia High boys are 6-1, 1-0 in league play. Topeka High is 1-5, 0-1.
Coach Lee Baldwin says the Spartans have to match Topeka High’s intensity.
Junior Sheldon Stewart says they have to focus on themselves.
Game times are 6 p.m. for the girls, 7:30 p.m. for the boys. You can hear the games on 14 KVOE-AM/96.9 FM with coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m.
