The Emporia High basketball teams continued their winning ways Friday against Topeka High.
The Lady Spartans defeated the Lady Trojans, 51-40, in a battle of ranked teams. Emporia High jumped out to a 15-3 lead and never looked back despite Topeka High pulling within single digits in the fourth quarter.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey says the Lady Spartans played a complete game.
Emeil Bennett led the Lady Spartans with a career-high 13 points. Lexsey Dewitt added a career-high 12 points and Addie Kirmer tallied 10.
The Lady Spartans are now 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in Centennial League play.
The Emporia High boys defeated the Trojans, 69-59.
The Spartans trailed by as many as eight in the second quarter before using a 20-4 run to go up eight and led 37-33 at halftime.
Emporia High led by as many as 13 before Topeka High pulled within one possesion in the fourth quarter.
Coach Lee Baldwin says the Spartans are continuing to find ways to win games.
River Peters led Emporia High with 23 points. Jalyn King added 14 and Cooper Rech had 12.
Emporia High is now 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in Centennial League play.
Up next for Emporia High is Paola on Tuesday at Spartan Gymnasium.
