USD 253 Emporia has a pair of fundraising opportunities coming up over the course of the next week all to support summer camp experiences for the district’s special needs students.
Emporia High School will be hosting a sensory-friendly movie and game day Saturday at 2 pm. The cost to attend is $7 per person and students with “exceptionalities” are invited to attend and must be accompanied by an adult according to USD 253 Director of Student Services Tara Glades.
Proceeds from the movie night will go to support activities for Camp Hope. Glades says Camp Hope is a three to six-week summer program that provides a traditional summer camp experience for district students with “significant disabilities.”
Along with the movie and game day, the district is also holding a Facebook auction from Jan. 10 through the 12th. Items will include sports memorabilia, furniture, packages and much more.
Residents can find the auction by searching Camp Hope online auction. Winners will be able to pick up their winnings at the game day on Jan. 14.
Camp Hope is a community partnership funded through grants, fundraising and community donations. The cost to attend is $100 per student per week.
Camp Hope is traditionally housed in a district facility over the course of the summer, however, a site for this year has yet to be selected due to ongoing construction at most district buildings as part of the Building for the Future bond renovation initiative.
